Grief therapy the WRONG way

Deuteronomy 18:10-13

King James Version

10 There shall not be found among you

any one that maketh his son or his daughter

to pass through the fire, or that useth divination,

or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch.

11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits,

or a wizard, or a necromancer.

Many of us have gone through grief.

Many, through inconsolable grief.

Hoping we could find comfort somewhere.

We also need reassurance our loved ones are okay.

But is there a right way to grieve?

And a wrong way?

There sure is.

There was a time seances were in vogue.

Wherein people sought the help of a medium.

But has it brought the dead back?

Or has it caused more grief?

And frustration?

What is a "consulter with familiar spirits"?

Or a "necromancer"?

Many don't realize those are abominations to GOD.

These Bible versions explain more:

Deuteronomy 18:11

Amplified Bible

11 or one who casts a charm or spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or a necromancer [who seeks the dead].

Deuteronomy 18:11

Christian Standard Bible

11 cast spells, consult a medium or a spiritist, or inquire of the dead.

Deuteronomy 18:11

Common English Bible

11 or spell caster; who converses with ghosts or spirits or communicates with the dead.

Deuteronomy 18:11

Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition

11 Nor charmer, nor any one that consulteth pythonic spirits, or fortune tellers, or that seeketh the truth from the dead.

Deuteronomy 18:11

11 Don’t let anyone try to put magic spells on other people. Don’t let any of your people become a medium or a wizard. And no one should try to talk with someone who has died.

Deuteronomy 18:11

Expanded Bible

11 Don’t let anyone ·try to control others with magic [cast spells], and don’t let them ·be mediums [consult/inquire of ghosts or spirits] or try to ·talk with the spirits of [consult] dead people [1 Sam. 28].

Deuteronomy 18:11

GOD’S WORD Translation

11 cast spells, ask ghosts or spirits for help, or consult the dead.

Deuteronomy 18:10-11

The Message

10-11 Don’t practice divination, sorcery, fortunetelling, witchery, casting spells, holding séances, or channeling with the dead

Deuteronomy 18:11

Modern English Version

11 or one who casts spells, or a spiritualist, or an occultist, or a necromancer.

Deuteronomy 18:11

New American Bible (Revised Edition)

11 or who casts spells, consults ghosts and spirits, or seeks oracles from the dead.

Deuteronomy 18:11

New English Translation

11 one who casts spells,[a] one who conjures up spirits,[b] a practitioner of the occult,[c] or a necromancer.[d]

Deuteronomy 18:11

New International Reader's Version

11 Don’t put a spell on anyone. Don’t get messages from those who have died. Don’t talk to the spirits of the dead. Don’t get advice from the dead.

Deuteronomy 18:11

New Life Version

11 or uses secret power on people, or helps people talk to spirits, or talks to spirits himself, or talks with the dead.

Deuteronomy 18:11

New Living Translation

11 or cast spells, or function as mediums or psychics, or call forth the spirits of the dead.

Deuteronomy 18:11

New Revised Standard Version, Anglicised

11 or one who casts spells, or who consults ghosts or spirits, or who seeks oracles from the dead.

Devarim 18:11

Orthodox Jewish Bible

11 Or one who casts spells, or one who inquires of a ghost or a familiar spirit, or a doresh el hamesim (a consulter of the dead ones, i.e., a necromancer).

Deuteronomy 18:11

The Voice

11 casting spells, or trying to contact ghosts, spirits, or the dead.

Deuteronomy 18:11

Wycliffe Bible

11 neither any enchanter or tregetour, (that is, he who deceiveth men’s eyes so that a thing seem that which it is not); neither a man take counsel of them that have a fiend speaking within them, neither of false diviners, neither seek of dead men the truth (nor let anyone take counsel from them who have a fiend speaking within them, or from false diviners, nor seek they to learn the truth from the dead).

In SUMMARY, a "consulter with familiar spirits" is defined as one who:

is a medium

converses with ghosts or spirits

consults pythonic spirits

consults/inquires of ghosts or spirits]

asks ghosts or spirits for help

holds séances

is a spiritualist

consults ghosts and spirits

conjures up spirits

gets messages from those who have died; talks to the spirits of the dead

helps people talk to spirits

consults ghosts or spirits

inquires of a ghost or a familiar spirit

tries to contact ghosts, spirits, or the dead

takes counsel of them that have a fiend speaking within them

In SUMMARY, a "necromancer" is one who:

seeks the dead

inquires of the dead

communicates with the dead

seeks the truth from the dead

tries to talk with someone who has died

talks with the spirits of [consults] dead people

consults the dead

channels the dead

seeks oracles from the dead

gets advice from the dead

talks with the dead

calls forth the spirits of the dead

is a doresh el hamesim (a consulter of the dead ones, i.e., a necromancer)

tries to contact ghosts, spirits, or the dead

Why are we not to do these things?

The Bible tells us why:

Deuteronomy 18:12-13

King James Version

12 For all that do these things

are an abomination unto the Lord:

and because of these abominations the Lord thy God

doth drive them out from before thee.

13 Thou shalt be perfect with the Lord thy God.

Further, why should we communicate with the dead?

Don't we realize these could invite evil spirits?

Look to this man, who sought healing from JESUS:

Mark 5:2-3

King James Version

2 And when he was come out of the ship,

immediately there met him out of the tombs

a man with an unclean spirit,

3 Who had his dwelling among the tombs;

and no man could bind him,

no, not with chains:

(The complete story can be found here.)

GOD is the "living God".

JESUS gives us eternal life.

What have we got to do communicating with the dead?

Time to wake up, and acknowledge Scripture.

Do so now.

What happens when WE die?

Ecclesiastes 9:5

King James Version

5 For the living know that they shall die:

but the dead know not any thing,

neither have they any more a reward;

for the memory of them is forgotten.

For the longest time, I put off thoughts about death.

But GOD led me to Bible prophecy in September 2019.

Then JESUS alerted me to the RAPTURE in January 2020.

My beloved baby sister dies in my arms in October 2021.

There was no more evading the issue of death.

If not for the GRACE of GOD, I'd have fallen apart.

This blog is for my healing, and for Scripture's revealing.

Here are verses to help us all, in our moments of grief.

Genesis 3:19

King James Version

19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread,

till thou return unto the ground;

for out of it wast thou taken:

for dust thou art,

and unto dust shalt thou return.

Psalm 6:5

King James Version

5 For in death there is no remembrance of thee:

in the grave who shall give thee thanks?

Psalm 146:3-4

King James Version

3 Put not your trust in princes,

nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.

4 His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth;

in that very day his thoughts perish.

Ecclesiastes 3:19-20

King James Version

19 For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts;

even one thing befalleth them:

as the one dieth, so dieth the other;

yea, they have all one breath;

so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast:

for all is vanity.

20 All go unto one place;

all are of the dust,

and all turn to dust again.

Ecclesiastes 12:7

King James Version

7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was:

and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

Isaiah 26:19

King James Version

19 Thy dead men shall live,

together with my dead body shall they arise.

Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust:

for thy dew is as the dew of herbs,

and the earth shall cast out the dead.

Daniel 12:2

King James Version

2 And many of them that sleep

in the dust of the earth shall awake,

some to everlasting life,

and some to shame

and everlasting contempt.

Ezekiel 18:4

King James Version

4 Behold,

all souls are mine;

as the soul of the father,

so also the soul of the son is mine:

the soul that sinneth, it shall die.

Matthew 10:28

King James Version

28 And fear not them which kill the body,

but are not able to kill the soul:

but rather fear him which is able to destroy

both soul and body in hell.

John 3:16

King James Version

16 For God so loved the world,

that he gave his only begotten Son,

that whosoever believeth in him should not perish,

but have everlasting life.

John 5:24

King James Version

24 Verily, verily, I say unto you,

He that heareth my word,

and believeth on him that sent me,

hath everlasting life,

and shall not come into condemnation;

but is passed from death unto life.

John 5:25-27

King James Version

25 Verily, verily, I say unto you,

The hour is coming,

and now is,

when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God:

and they that hear shall live.

26 For as the Father hath life in himself;

so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;

27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also,

because he is the Son of man.

John 5:28-29

King James Version

28 Marvel not at this:

for the hour is coming,

in the which all that are in the graves

shall hear his voice,

29 And shall come forth;

they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life;

 and they that have done evil,

unto the resurrection of damnation.

John 11:25

King James Version

25 Jesus said unto her,

I am the resurrection,

and the life:

he that believeth in me,

though he were dead,

yet shall he live:

John 14:1-4

King James Version

14 Let not your heart be troubled:

ye believe in God, believe also in me.

2 In my Father's house are many mansions:

 if it were not so, I would have told you.

I go to prepare a place for you.

3 And if I go and prepare a place for you,

I will come again, and receive you unto myself;

that where I am, there ye may be also.

4 And whither I go ye know,

and the way ye know.

Romans 2:5-11

King James Version

5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart

treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath

and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:

7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing

seek for glory and honour and immortality,

eternal life:

8 But unto them that are contentious,

and do not obey the truth,

but obey unrighteousness,

indignation and wrath,

9 Tribulation and anguish,

upon every soul of man that doeth evil,

of the Jew first,

and also of the Gentile;

10 But glory, honour, and peace,

to every man that worketh good,

to the Jew first,

and also to the Gentile:

11 For there is no respect of persons with God.

Romans 14:10-12

King James Version

10 But why dost thou judge thy brother?

or why dost thou set at nought thy brother?

for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.

11 For it is written,

As I live, saith the Lord,

every knee shall bow to me,

and every tongue shall confess to God.

12 So then every one of us

shall give account of himself to God.

1 Corinthians 15:51

King James Version

51 Behold, I shew you a mystery;

We shall not all sleep,

but we shall all be changed,

2 Corinthians 5:8

King James Version

8 We are confident, I say,

and willing rather to be absent from the body,

and to be present with the Lord.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-14

King James Version

13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren,

concerning them which are asleep,

that ye sorrow not,

 even as others which have no hope.

14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again,

even so them also which sleep in Jesus

will God bring with him.

1 Thessalonians 4:16

King James Version

16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven

with a shout,

with the voice of the archangel,

and with the trump of God:

and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

Hebrews 9:27

King James Version

27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die,

but after this the judgment:

James 4:14

For what is your life?

It is even a vapour,

that appeareth for a little time,

and then vanisheth away.

1 Peter 1:3

King James Version

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

which according to his abundant mercy

hath begotten us again unto a lively hope

by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

Revelation 20:4-5

King James Version

4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them,

and judgment was given unto them:

and I saw the souls of them

that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus,

and for the word of God,

and which had not worshipped the beast,

neither his image,

neither had received his mark upon their foreheads,

or in their hands;

and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

5 But the rest of the dead lived not again

until the thousand years were finished.

This is the first resurrection.

Revelation 20:6

King James Version

6 Blessed and holy is he

that hath part in the first resurrection:

on such the second death hath no power,

but they shall be priests of God and of Christ,

and shall reign with him a thousand years.

Revelation 20:11-12

King James Version

11 And I saw a great white throne,

and him that sat on it,

from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away;

and there was found no place for them.

12 And I saw the dead,

small and great,

stand before God;

and the books were opened:

and another book was opened,

which is the book of life:

and the dead were judged out of those things

which were written in the books,

according to their works.

Revelation 20:13

King James Version

13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it;

 and death and hell delivered up the dead

which were in them:
